International News: American politics suffered a major setback when two senior public representatives were targeted in the state of Minnesota on the same night. These attacks have not only raised serious questions about the security system but have also created an atmosphere of panic and anger across the country.

According to reports, former Speaker of the Minnesota House and senior Democratic Party leader Melissa Hortman, along with her husband, was shot dead at her residence. It is believed that the attackers were dressed in police uniforms and entered the house without raising suspicion. Once inside, they opened fire without warning.

Senator John Hoffman Also Attacked

On the same night, Minnesota Senator John Hoffman was also shot at his home in Champlin. He sustained serious injuries but is reported to be in stable condition at the hospital. The similar modus operandi in both attacks has fueled suspicions that these were pre-planned political assaults.

Political Conspiracy Suspected, Governor Calls It ‘Political Murder’

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz termed the incident a “political murder” during a press conference. “Melissa was not just a strong leader; she was also a dear friend of mine. This is a horrifying attack that strikes at the heart of our democracy,” he said. The Governor urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigating agencies.

Attacker Impersonating Police Officer, State on High Alert

According to the police, the suspect is described as a white male with brown hair, wearing a blue shirt, pants, and a black bulletproof jacket. He is believed to be impersonating a police officer in an attempt to gain access to homes. In response, a 'Shelter-in-Place' alert has been issued within a three-mile radius of the Edinburgh Golf Course.

Police Appeal: Stay Vigilant, Don’t Open Doors Without Verification

Local law enforcement has appealed to residents not to open their doors unless two authorized officers are visibly present and identifiable. Citizens are urged to report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 911.

Background of the Victims

Melissa Hortman had been active in politics since 2004. She served as the Speaker of the Minnesota House and was a lawyer by profession. A mother of two, she was widely respected for her clarity, leadership, and hard-working nature. John Hoffman has been serving in the Minnesota Senate since 2012. He also runs a consulting firm and previously held the position of Vice President of the Anoka-Hennepin School Board.

Rising Tide of Political Violence in the U.S.

This tragic incident comes amid a growing wave of political violence in the United States. A recent report by the University of Chicago indicates a sharp increase in threats and attacks against public officials in recent years. U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar condemned the attacks, calling them “shocking and terrifying,” and warned that they are part of a dangerous attempt to undermine American democracy.

FBI and Other Federal Agencies Leading Investigation

Along with local law enforcement, the FBI and other federal agencies have joined the investigation and are actively searching for the suspects. Authorities stated that more details would be released in an upcoming press briefing. Meanwhile, residents have been advised to remain alert and avoid spreading unverified information.
